الاستجابة للنمو السكاني السريع في مصر

يفرض النمو السكاني السريع في مصر ضغوطاً على اقتصاد البلاد وبيئتها ويهدد صحة ورفاه شعبها. ففي الفترة بين عامي 1994 و2014، ازداد عدد السكان بنسبة 46 بالمائة، من 60 مليوناً إلى حوالي 88 مليوناً - وهي زيادة تفوق إجمالي حجم سكان سوريا ولبنان معاً (انظر شكل 1).
ويهدد مثل هذا النمو السريع عملية التنمية في مصر بصورة أكثر من مجرد ازدحام العاصمة القاهرة وتلوثها. ويصنف تقرير التنمية البشرية الذي أصدرته الأمم المتحدة عام 2014 مصر في المرتبة 110 بين 185 بلداً. ويبين التقرير أن حوالي نصف سكان مصر ممن تبلغ أعمارهم 25 سنة فما فوق كانت لديهم وظائف عام 2012، وبين أولئك الذين كانت لديهم وظائف، فإن 14 بالمائة كانوا لا يزالون تحت مستوى خط الفقر الدولي الذي يبلغ أقل من 2 دولار أميركي في اليوم .
