ABSTRACT

The area of study lies between Harghada and Safaga and extending westward to the Red Sea mountains. It is hydrogeomorphologically subdivided into three units; the water-shed area (Red Sea mountains and foot-slope hills), the water collectors (the wadis and the depressions) and the coastal plain .

The drainage net is clearly defined into two groups which are directed towards the east into the Red Sea covering the area of study and toward the west into the Nile Valley. The small wadies start their intake portions from the hilly terrain , whereas the major wadis start their intake portions from the Red Sea mountains .

According to the orientation of drainage arteries, the investigated area is subdivided into three hydrographic provinces namely the northern, the central and the southern province.
