Abstract:
The deterioration of the vegetation cover is one of of the most important contemporary environmental problems; so that the continued depletion of natural vegetation could lead to a deepening the deterioration of agricultural land and their productivity, as well as impacting on sustainable tourism.
The aim of this study was to investigate the environmental depletion of decaying vegetation, and its impact on tourism in the region of Jazan. To achieve this, a multi-temporal analysis of two Landsat TM images are used. These were analyzed using the software of ERDAS Imagine v. 8.5. Besides, a number of topographic and tourist maps of the study area were obtained on from multiple sources. The maps were processed and reproduced using the GIS software Arc GIS v. 9.3.
The results have revealed a decaying vegetation cover in the study area between 1987 and 2002 leading to significant environmental vulnerability, especially in mountainous areas and hillslopes.
exposure to drain the study area has led to significant environmental vulnerability to desertification between 1987 and 2002, especially in mountainous areas and slopes.
A steady increase in population, economic development, and climate have increased rates of soil erosion, thereby increasing the rates of desertification, loss of green spaces.Jazan Province has lost about 46% of the vegetation in that period, and an annual rate of 3%.
Green areas have fell from 8% of the total area of Jazan Province in 1987, to 4.3% in 2002.; Demonstrating the vulnerability of the region to process a large drain, will inevitably lead to further desertification and drought.
Which will reflect negatively on the size of eco-tourism in the study area, where did you get only 3% of the volume of tourism in the Kingdom of the Interior in 2003.
The study recommends the importance of taking a set of procedures and methods to protect vegetation and development, as well as natural forests, and to stop environmental degradation in the tourist attractions of the region of Jazan.
