Abstract
The social and economic factors affecting on women's fertility in north Gaza Governorate

This study aims at recognizing the social and economic factors affecting on women's fertility in north Gaza Governorate .
This study depends on a random, stratified sample , which were distributed on the married women in the governorate from the age of ( 15-49 ) years old . The size of the sample was 400 women .The governorate was classified into threepatterns : ( urban , rural , camp ). And this study depends on the questionnaires , adding to the data of the Central Bureau of the Statistic which were derived from the census , the demographic surveys , the family medical surveys , and population brochures . To achieve the objectives of this study , the researcher used the statistical analysis in order to achieve a quantitative measurement of the variables .
The study was divided into five chapters .The first chapters included the theoretical branch for the study The second chapter studied the population structure in the North Gaza Governorate . Chapter three deals with the fertility's levels in the North Gaza Governorate . Chapter four studies the social factors affecting on the women's fertility in North Gaza Governorate .
It was clear through the study of the age structure of the governorate that the society is a young one, 46.3 % of the population being under 15 years old .The gender structure for the population showed that there are 103.6 males for 100 females . When the researcher studied the marital status of the population , it turned out that 51.3% of the married are male and 55% are female . The percent of the widow males was 5.4% of the population , and the percent of the widow women was 1.18 % .The average of the age at the first marriage for the males was 22.9 years old , and for the females was 19.8 years old .
The crude birth rate was 35.3 thousands and the general fertility rate was 2324 thousands and the total fertility rate was 5.2 .
The study shows that the woman's work , the style of living , the using of family's organizing tools , and the income have a big effect on the women's fertility .
The field study emphasized that there is a statistically significance relationship between ( the age at the first marriage , the current age of the mother , the period of the marriage life and the education level ) and the number of the children that is liked to have .

The field studyemphasized that the period of the marriage life is the most interrupting changefor the number of the children .It interrupts that 63% at the significance level of 0.00, and the relationship is directly betweenthe period of the marriage life for the women and the number of children she has. The tendency of the having children is comes in the second grade. The value of theis 33.5 % at the significance level of the 0.000.
Also the field study shows the decreasing of the children's number when the age at the first marriage is increasing. The study emphasized the decreasing in the number of children when the education level of the wife and husband is high . According to the study , the average of the children's number for the working women is 3.69 children, meanwhile the children'snumber for the housewives women is 5.8 children .And the most important recommendations that the study recommends were : working at rising the obligated education for the males , supporting family's organizing programs , telling people about the dangers of early marriage , concentrating on developing the role of the woman specially and working for changing the situations and the traditional habits which stop the woman's development .
