Abstract

Detection of land cover Change and Land use in the district of Ramtha using remote sensing and Geographic Information system(GIS) during 1980-2014, Master Thesis,yarmouk university, Under the supervision of Dr. Reem Kharouf (supervisor and Chairman), Dr. Dalal Zraiqat (supervisor externally).
This study addressed the detection of changes in land cover and land use in the District of Ramtha through GIS and remote sensing systems. Where only the study of three categories, namely: urban land, agricultural land and barren land. This study aims to reveal the extent of change in these classifications through reliance on satellite visuals of the study area for the years 1985.1990, 1995, 2002.2010, 2014 rating action directed to them. As it predicted the extent of change in these classifications until 2030, through the use of time-series (Markov). This study concluded that there is a noticeable change in land use and land cover an area in the study area, where the increased area of agricultural land a year (1985-2014) at a rate of 5.96%, and saw the urban land area increased by 9.68%, while barren land area has seen decreased by 15.64%.
The study recommended the importance of proper planning for land use and land cover commensurate with the characteristics of the region, and attention to vegetation and limit the expansion of urban land on the expense of agricultural land.
