Study of improvement, distribution and specifications of the road network in Tobruk city using geographic information system (GIS)

Abstract
Road networks in cities give useful information about the development in those cities as well as to give the impression to the ease of movementوmobility and also affect positively or negatively on economic activity in those cities, and more importantly, it basically supports in drawing development plans, structure of cities. This research was studied stages of development of road network in the city of Tobruk. Streets classifications, specifications and properties were studied and its effect on economic was evaluated. The results obtained has analysed from the viewpoint of spatially. To achieve this purpose, study followed the historical method, and descriptive analysis, and some statistical methods, as well as take advantage of GIS technology to assess the road network in the city. It was found that the road networks is the only one way for transportation in the city, and used of private cars, are also mostly used in the transfer process. In addition lack of equitable distribution of the transport network between the city areas was observed, which led to inadequate economic and effectiveness of the city network. The study recommended the necessity of paving roads and streets of the city to achieve spatial justice among all districts of the city, and moreover, work to improve economic efficiency of the road network.
