Partnership for geo-education

The project called “Partnership for geo-education” was carried out between November 2014 and August 2016 under the European Erasmus + Program: Strategic Partnerships in Adult Education.

It involved four partner organizations from four different countries: Stowarzyszenie Kaczawskie from Poland, ADRIMAG from Portugal, Háskólafélag Suðurlands from Iceland and Local Action Group Barun-Trenk from Croatia. Stowarzyszenie Kaczawskie from Poland, the coordinating organization, being interested in joining the European and Global Geopark Network in the future, has searched among the existing European Geoparks which of them might be interested in developing a partnership dedicated to learning from each other’s experience in geo-education.

The partnership was first established on-line, using e-mail and skype communication. Even though the partnership was established for the purposes of this Project, it remains active even after its completion and several other common projects are already planned. All partner organizations have a common feature: our main activity is towards sustainable development and promotion of our respective regions. Also, all our regions carry a significant value related to geological heritage.

The Project’s main goal was to exchange good practices and experiences in outdoor geo-education. The partners also intended to create an end-product result will be long-lasting and widely available for other organizations that struggle with same challenges in their everyday work. It was decided that this Project’s intellectual output will be a geo-educational methodology.

In order to exchange knowledge and discuss issues that the partner organizations face when it comes to geo- education, the Project included four international meetings. They involved the partner organizations’ staff and collaborating experts, technicians and local government members. The meetings took place in each of the partner countries, in home regions of all partner organizations.

International Project Meetings took place in:
• Dobków, Poland - March 2015
• Selfoss, Iceland - June 2015
• Arouca, Portugal - November 2015
• Požega, Croatia - March 2016
