Abstract
This study aims to investigate the climatic characteristics in the countries of the Niger Basin, and the impact of climate on the human comfort applying some criterias for measuring thermal comfort, such as the presumption of effective temperature, and the presumption of thermal sensation, Temperature humidity index was applied to find out the human comfort in both annual and seasonal in The study area, the dry season were identified as the most comfortable season, and north the areas were more comfortable climate than in the south of the study area. The study also focused on the distribution of diseases and the impact of climate on this distribution in detail, then the study handed Nigeria as a case study.
This study consisted of an Introduction and five chapters and summary The first chapter discussed the climatic conditions of the countries in the Niger Basin, the second chapter focused on the impact of climate on human, while the third chapter dealt with the distribution of diseases in the study area, the fourth chapter investigate the impact of climate on the distribution of diseases, while the last chapter studied Nigeria a case study.
The main results of the study were :-
1- The climatic factors play a key role in the distribution and spread of seasonal diseases in the study area.
2- The study found that The wet season is the spread of The vector-borne diseases spread more in the wet season in the study area.
3- latitude 15 °N is the northern limit of the spread for the Indirect transmission of disease In the area.
4- The dry season is the best in terms of thermal human comfort .
5- North area is more comfortable climate than in the south due to lower overall average relative humidity.
6- Nigeria is the most affected country by Filaraa, malaria and cholera in the study area.
