Abstract
This research attempts to investigate the possibility of using the suitable cartographic methods and then selecting the optimum method to represent the civil air transportation in Iraq via using the modern techniques supported by the recognized manual methods that based on the rules and principles of cartography.
The research studies transportation the five years that represented the peak of the activities of the main airports in Iraq. The field study adopts survey method and the data that are collected throughout the interviews. The results show that air transportation maps were able to represent the liner phenomena, justifying the importance of selecting the liner symbols in representing the air transportation and its diversities and in recognizing the spatial relation by analyzing the specialized objective maps. The research depends on suitable representation methods of graphic symbolizing to be agree with the cartographic exhibition and its characteristics to add clearance and exactness so it would be possible to see the air transportation data among airports as values that are recognized scientifically.
It was sufficient to apply the cartographic representation on line symbols to in exhibiting transportation movements and directions, the result would be the same in using triangles and squares. According to that the research explains the optimum method to apply the concept of the quantitative relation between the values and the way of defining the suitable figure to represent the minimum and the maximum values on the objective maps.
The researcher recommends, those who are interesting on programing, utilizing the results that are prepared by the methods which achieve map bases to put the objective map with maintaining the basic rules to representing the geographic phenomena of the quantitative resources on the objective maps. Moreover, the researcher recommends using data technology in the library of the department of geography, as well as the necessity of considering the other specialties which had not been covered by these techniques and coordinate the participation in the geographic data base services to fulfill the real requirements of air transportation services.
