The Impact of an Electronic Program about Branches of Modern Geography and Technology on Developing High School Geography Teachers’ Specialized Teaching Skills and Attitudes towards ETraining

Abstract:
Training Geography in-service teachers has become an important requirement in tems of the cognitive and technological developments. That is, it would possible help teachers keep pace with modern branches of new Geography and technology, develop the specialized teaching skills, and use them in teaching. In the era of the revolution in information, knowledge and technology, sustainable professional development of teachers is now key to improving education due to its great importance in developing teachers’ specialized teaching skills, which is, in turn, reflected on their students' learning Therefore, there was a compelling need to conduct the current research, which aimed at developing high school Geography teachers’ specialized teaching skills and attitudes towards E-training in light of branches of modern Geography and pertinent technology. This research investigates the following main question: “How effective is an electronic training program on branches of modern Geography and technology in developing high school Geography teachers’ specialized teaching skills and attitudes towards E-training?” To answer this main question, the specialized teaching skills necessary for high school Geography teachers were identified. Moreover, a training program was designed, using blended Etraining, in light of branches of modern Geography and technology. An achievement test, a specialized teaching skills observation checklist and a scale of attitudes towards E-training were also prepared and administered to the research group of high school Geography teachers at Damietta and Dakahliya governorates. In light of the statistical treatment of data, the research findings revealed the following: The training program has achieved a high level of effectiveness in developing the high school Geography teachers’ knowledge pertaining to the branches of modern Geography and underlying technology.The training program has achieved a high level of effectiveness in developing the high school Geography teachers’ specialized teaching skills. The training program has achieved a high level of effectiveness in developing the high school Geography teachers’ attitudes towards E- training. The research concluded with recommendations and suggestions related to the educational needs of high school Geography teachers. Recommendations also included the need to plan and implement training programs using blended learning and Etraining to keep up with innovations in the field of Geography and pertinent technology.
