Summary
Heat is one of most important climatic elements due to effect on other climatic elements and its impact on humans through their various activities. The research deals with the study of the occurrence of heat waves in Syria, by adopting the definition of a heat wave as the period in which the maximum temperature rises above the average for the period in question by 4c or more for least three consecutive days. The climate data was restored due to the lack of daily data available at most weather station, and the maximum temperatures wave studied for the stations studied by Syria. The research consists of for chapters. The first chapter included a study of the seasonal of maximum and minimum temperatures and their distribution in Syria. The second chapter dealt with the seasonal weather conditions prevailing in Syria during heat waves and explained the reason for their occurrence during the different seasons of the year. The third chapter included a statistical study of heat waves. In Syria a monthly and intensity, and studying the general trend of heat waves in Syria in general, and general quarterly basis, knowing their frequency and type of heat waves that occurred in tems of duration and intensity, and studying the general trend of heat waves in Syria in general, and the general quarterly tend of heat waves using the third-degree general trend equation, while the forth chapter included a case study. Heat waves that occurred from 2019-2022 AD, by studying the frequency of occurrence of heat waves and studying each wave that occurred in terms of duration, intensity, and the extent of the deviation of the maximum temperature from the average, and studying the prevailing weather condition during the monsoon period, that is, at its beginning and end in peak days through atmospheric maps at different altitudes (surface 500milibar). It was found through the study that autumn season had the highest frequency of waves, followed by the spring season, then the winter season, and the lowest frequency of heat waves occurred in the summer season. The most important reason leading to the occurrence of waves in Syria were the Indian seasonal low associated with subtropical high. It was found the trend overall, heat waves in Syria are declining.
