Abstract
Environment problems are the most important concern in most countries of the world, and in Syria, water resources problems are the focus of all environmental research. Among the water resources problems, are the pollution of olive mill wastewater (OMWW) Where these wastes thrown directly into nature without any treatment and randomly, which negatively affects the components of the ecosystem.
Therefore, it was necessary to find practical solutions that do not have a negative impact on the environment, especially in view of the increase in areas planted with olives. which in turn lead to increase the effluents generated by the process of the Pressing. and despite the existence of legislation governing the regulation of wastewater drainage, That the methods used for treatment are not fully effective and have not proved successful, with partial results and high cost, and the trend towards an integrated solution to manage the waste of olive presses.
In this research, the solution has been put forward within most of the contemporary spread in olive growing areas in the basin of the Al-Abrash River in the province of Tartous, where the total area planted with olives about 8525.6 hectares and constitute 56.6% of the basin area. Where was put a model in place to manage the distribution of 35 olive mills waste in the basin which different in the quantities of seasonal production through GIS techniques. The research divided into six chapters. Chapter I presents a general introduction on olive growing in the world, Syria and the basin, olive presses and the most important methods and technologies of the olive Press. Chapter II includes different studies dealing with the problem of OMWW and the environmental damage resulting from it and the Characterization of these wastes. Chapter III reviewed general principles on environmental management and geographic information systems and some studies on the use of these systems to manage of OMWW.
Chapter V provides a detailed explanation of the study area with some maps. Chapter VI is devoted to reviewing the results and tables, identifying allocations to agricultural land and processing proposals, and indicating the role of environmental management in these outcomes. At the end of the study, the study presented the main conclusions and recommendations and presented the references used.
